I had no idea how much I missed the sound of waves and the delicious taste of seafood. For my Spring Break three friends in my program and I flew to Ibiza where we had an Airbnb right on the beach with a beautiful pool and ocean view.
We landed late Wednesday late afternoon and went out to grab some dinner. Unfortunately, almost all restaurants were closed for Spanish siesta so we ended up eating at a Mexican restaurant ha! Afterwards we went to a local "Cafeteria" for a couple draft Estrellas. The waiter continued to bring out free tapas with our drinks- peanuts, potatoes and ketchup, fries. He surely knew how to get us to stay!
The next day we made a delicious breakfast, applied lots of sunscreen, and headed out to our little beach to relax for the afternoon. We stayed all the way until sunset. There was a full moon that was coming up right as the sun went down creating one of the most breathtaking views I’ve witnessed. From our balcony the white moon lit up the pitch black sea and pool. The poor quality of the photos just don't cut it. That night we headed towards town for dinner.
Friday we were in for a big treat! We chartered our own 50ft catamaran for 9 hours out on the Mediterranean Sea. Our skipper sailed us from beach to beach to exploring Ibiza’s best coves. I got to learn quite a bit about driving, turning, and putting up the sails.
Call me captain!
Our first stop was Calabassa where we ate lunch. "We" dropped the Catamaran's anchor, lowered down the dingy, and motored to the little dock. The water was crystal clear and the sand almost white. This is our skipper Fetty!
The four of us feasted over rich lobster paella that was almost more expensive than the flight over haha.
We got back on our yacht and sailed further down towards a beach with coral reefs and coves. We broke out the paddle board and snorkeling gear and hopped in. Looks are quite deceiving though because that water was freezing.
We hit some other mini islands and beaches before popping some champagne and watching the sunset out at sea.
On our last day we strolled down the coastline eventually heading to Old Town Ibiza, strolled through a book fair, and watched some elementary students perform a place. We took a taxi to Las Salinas beach known for its beautiful sand and clear water. We stayed the rest of the day there soaking in our last couple hours of sunshine.
We decided to see the sunset from the fort on a mountain towering over Ibiza. There were so many narrow winding streets, stairways, and tunnels to explore. We set up a little picnic at the top and were able to experience the panoramic view in the daylight but also the atmosphere as darkness fell and the town began to light up.
Our last night we went out to Sankeys, a big club and luckily snuck in with some locals because the entrance fee was unrealistic. We might as well have taken a taxi from the club to the airport it was so early.
Definitely an unforgettable spring break, and now back to reality. Only three weeks left in Prague!
